Tho little front didn't last long, it did two things: 1 - lowered scorching heat for a while 2 - got fish biting
Fishin in canal either side of Matagorda draw bridge early morning was productive. Got a mess of speckled trout on live, dead, artificals during crepuscular moments tween dawn and sunrise tho squitos were bad
Caught some catfish south of Bay City dam each evening too past few days, one was a sixteen pound flathead. And throwlines on Colorado s. of Wharton did well too with mostly bluecats and a 12# yellowcat which is encouraging now that old timers who used to telephone river have died out and population has increased.

my 2 days FISHIN' Report: - Matagorda beach surf was a bit rough when arrived there Tuesday, but with overcast skies and falling tide, managed to catch a bullred (borderline keeper) but since it was going to be camp meat, who gives a rat's patoot about length. Nothing like, fresh fish over a campfire. Not much else to report, cept landed a 4-foot sand shark that got some steaks off.
- Wednesday, was cloudy early, had a bit of luck on the ICC down at Dead Man's curve, with mess of croaker and couple of whiting. When skies cleared out, so did the fish. And within hour, so did I.
- Made way home, and finished off 2 day trip, drowning worms in the Colorado R. not far from the house. Sunny day, not to hot, relaxing, managed to catch a few Zees before heading to the house.

I need to take a trip down to Carancahua Bay soon. Been to long-----use to use lures, but it's been many years. Wherebouts you go? Port Alto side or El Campo Beach? Down around the pass going into Matagorda Bay or whats left of Redfish lakes on the southwest end down from Port Alto? Or do you fish up at the upper end, around the grassy shoreline on the nor'east side near the public boat ramp or along the oyster reefs across from the point ramp known by locals as Cresent Vee? Or do you like to freshwater fish off the old one-lane bridge way up North of the Tx35 causeway? Kinda curious ... I used to hit all those places years ago.

Sounds like it!
If'n get chance, gonna try my luck there come the Spring when more saline water surges into the estuaries, after all the rain we've had over the winter. By then, the recruitment of shrimp in the tidal grassbeds will be venturing into deeper waters ahead of the early summer white shrimp spawn. Might just be a good year for live bait & lure fishermen.

thats cause the lay of the bay. when the prevailing wind blows, it chops up quickly which makes the leeward sides round Redfish shoals such a productive place when the s.e.Winds blow

Caught a mess of fish. 9 good size trout, couple large croaker, a borderline Redfish (maybe just a little over legal limit), 6 good size southern Flounder (4 right-eyes + 2 left-eyes), and a gafftop.
My son ('n fishing bud) is finishing up what i didn't do. With daughter & in-laws coming over tomorrow evening, it'll be our first chance to serve a Texas seafood dinner (the American way: fried or broiled) to my Viet relatives and ourselves, since the wife 'n i got back from s.e.Asia.
Of course, we had to pick up some oysters from Buddy's in Matagorda on way home, too.
Fished in bay side of "oilwell cut" on Matagorda bay south shoreline, about 1/2-mile west of Maverick Bayou. Water was pretty decent on the eddy side; prehaps a mite clear where we were. Used mudminnows & mudbugs (crawdad's) + fresh cranberries, all the things the fish are not accustomed to 'cept the killifish (mudminnow) estuary baitfish. Son (big artifical fanatic) caught most of the trout on a silver or gold spoon. Unlike his old man, whose into either live bait or dynamite when they aren't biting such things, I'd say we had a pretty good day of fishing!

With Spring Break starting this weekend, i've heard the "Double-breasted Mattress Thrashers" will be making their annual migration thru the area. ;D

Is that any relation to that one species of cat fish that you can lure in with money? I've heard about those but i hear once you catch them it's a headache to get them un hooked lol.... i am going to wait till i get down there before i get my rigging that way i can see whats biting and also i can maybe drive to port isabel... no matter what i will have my video camera for anything i catch... maybe a few double breasted mattress thrashers... i just hope there arent too many trouser snakes out there....

Don't know yet. Know of any hotspots? Salpieer or Fresh? If aquatic is choice over estuarine waters, it mite be better to avoid the Colorado river above Glen Flo (flora) as it seems since that Discovery channel show about "Okie Noodling" has been on, there's been an upswing of fishermen willing to try that underbank technique for catching catfish. There hasn't been a drowning yet but as risky as that method is, there mite before the year is out.
