I understand that I can carry a handgun in Texas without a concealed handgun license - if I carry it in a holster outside my clothes or coat. Is this correct? The key word in the federal law is "concealed". A person can carry a rifle or shotgun in public as long as it not done in a menacing capacity - like pointing it at someone or threatening someone with the weapon. Some expert opinions?

OK - but open carry of a rifle or shotgun is allowed - right?

Don't remember the site at the moment but it had videos of folks carrying around all sorts of long guns and law officers conversations with them about it. Interesting but somewhat stupid at the same time.

This is not in Texas but I think it's the video you are talking about.
