Google Chrome Passes Safari to Nab Third in Browser RaceDecember 15th, 2009 | by Christina Warren Full Story (Link)
Just last week, Google finally released official betas for its Chrome browser for Mac and Linux. That release had a nice effect on market share for the browser, propelling it past Apple’s Safari and into third place.
Of course, third place — according to Net Applications — means 4.4 percent market share (Safari’s market share is 4.37 percent), but that’s still 0.4 percentage points higher than Chrome’s stats for November. The releases for Mac and Linux, plus the official Chrome Extensions roll-out, might be enough for the browser to finally gain some traction against competitors Firefox and Internet Explorer.
In terms of platforms, Chrome’s biggest area of growth actually came on the smallest platform — Linux. Linux represents an interesting opportunity for Chrome because its browser space is virtually dominated by Firefox (Yes, I know Konquerer and Opera are alternatives, but Firefox is far and away the biggest browser for Linux). That means that it is the area most ripe for growth.
Indeed, Chrome usage almost doubled from 3.81 percent in November to 6.34 percent last week. Google’s Chrome OS, which is based on the Linux kernel and is essentially a system-wide version of the Chrome browser, is scheduled to appear on netbooks and smartbooks next year.
Have you given Chrome a try? What do you think about it compared to Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer? Let us know.

I've tried using but I'm not really crazy about it myself. I only use it when I verify web browser compatibility. My guess is name recognition and the Pokemon logo helped push it forward. Some people may think that Safari is only usable on a Mac as well. Who knows. I'll stick with Firefox until the next update when they try and make it look like Google Chrome. I've seen previews and it's not looking good.

I use Chrome about 90% of the time. It just seems to be faster. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it works.

Couldn't access the comments section on the Hou Chron Spot, so I tried my Firefox, it hung up and wouldn't load because ICQ was the default homepage and ICQ has screwed up everything else so bad I've had to stop using it.... so I don't.... loaded Google Chrome. Woo-lah! Problem solved!
AND Google Chrome is much much faster than MSIE.

I find it difficult to put my allegiance behind google based on their brand of restrictive politics. And I'm not talking about use of filters to protect Chinese commies. During the 2008 campaign, the biggest online search engine showed its bias when it banned websites and bloggers whos conservative politics threatened their favored candidate, Barack Obama. Google was on a political and ideological campaign of political correctness that saw them denying access to their service to any website - be it news, opinion or a hybrid of both - that dared to question the candidacy of Mr. Obama. Google also refused to list websites that showed preferential treatment to Hillary Clinton in her debate with Obama being skilled enough to accept that 3:00 a.m. morning phone call involving national security. When it comes to an unbiased search engine, google is not.
