Pudge Rodriguez was the first veteran to get traded for younger players for the future of the Astros. I really don't blame them since they are definitedly out of the penant race. But just where do you draw the line on "keepers" and "traders"? I would keep Bourne, Pence, Berkman, Blum, Oswalt, Hernandez, and a couple of the younger pitchers as well. Tejada, Lee, Hampton and Matsui might bring in some good young catcher or pitcher....perferably pitchers.

You could get more for Pence and Oswalt than those four all together. Lee and Tejada are some of my favorite players though. Lee brings in alot of Mexican and other South American countries to the ballpark. It always seems they have great pitching and poor hitting or just the opposite.

Oh well I guess it's that time of the year .... again... to just sit back watch the Astros and just enjoy the baseball.

i was happy they offered arbitration to Valverde. i think Miggy is a good player, i hope they figure out a deal for him. i don't care for Latroy-no loss there.
i have a sick feeling that Oswalt isn't going to be a Astro next year.

I would miss Miggy if he left. He makes me laugh too . I like Hawkins, but we need Valverde

From inside the dugout - Berkman is the real dissenter on the club. Mr. PrimaDonna causes a rift among players with his ego and selfishness. They could get some really good talent if they sold or traded him away.

retired - i've heard the same thing - his "nice guy" public image is far from reality. in fact, "mean" has been used to describe berkman. i can tolerate personality problems if you are hitting 300 and 100 rbis but not when your in a slump like berkman was most of last season. i've also heard that hawkins has a bad attitude.

Valverde suffered from a lot of the same stuff that closers go through---my point, WHY do you need a shutdown closer for a team that has no starting pitching--and frankly, does not have the potential to be good at all. That is not going to win you enough games. Now let Jose walk away and use the money to grab a quality starter--like Randy Wolf
