Something is starting to tear up my back yard in spots. There are small dug-up holes...a couple are big. Would armadillos being doing this? If so, what can I do to stop/prevent this...short of strangling the suckers with my bare hands??!!

I think the babies are so cute. My husband caught baby one. He said it was probably weaned as would eat earthworms. We made a pet of it. It does eat bugs, crickets, worms, mealworms, and spiders but was so hard to kept fed we had to let it go out near where he caught it.
One of our friends from A&M said when babies are born, they always have four babies. All the same sex. Is that true?

Thanks for the info, ogeezer! I'm gonna go to the feed store and see if they might have something that will prevent them.

I was told to use moth balls to keep them from digging up the yard.

I use mothballs around the outside to keep snakes away...never heard that use for armadillos though! Someone even told me to sprinkle Comet cleanser...didn't work. Neighbor killed three of those pesky critters during that time period!!

I did put the mothballs around my yard and the armadillos did not dig up my flowerbeds as bad. You do have to reapply them after it rains or you water your yard.
I am also a firm believer in using mothballs to keep snakes away!

I just took the box and sprinkled it out in the flower beds. I put them out fairly thick because the amadillos were doing quite a number on my yard. Since I did that (it has been a couple of months now) the armadillos have left the flower beds alone. I did not put the mothballs in the grass, but may do that next spring also. If my meal smelled or tasted that bad, I would go elsewhere also!
Thanks, Buddy has been an interesting addition to our family. He does a pretty good job at keeping snakes away. And we do not have mice anymore!
