Have been putting up tile on the backsplash for the last two days in my kitchen. Hopefully we will finish the tile today and then get started on the grout. So far it looks really good. If I have enough tile left I'm going to use it on the bar top. I will post pics when I am finished so everyone can see it.

Taking a break while hubby cuts more tile for me to put up. I love this kind of stuff. I did the floors too. Hubby doesn't have the patience for putting up tile either.

My daughter's husband is good at tile-----hell he is good at most construction stuff. His Sheetrock work is as good as a pro. and he does electrical work. I'm not sure if he ever took the Master Electrician test but I'm sure he has the hours.
I never have gone that route. You husband and maybe you also saw the 24'x30' shop out back. My wife and I did that. We contracted out the concrete work but the rest we did.
We also stripped the kitchen out completely and replaced everything it it ourself. Counter tops, cabinets, and floor but tile----no thank you

Well I had enough tile left over, so I have started on the bar area. I had to take the old laminate off, that was a chore. I sliced my hand on a piece of it, but I'm not going to let that slow me down. Going to start grouting tomorrow.

Or you could use a cutting torch, which heats up the laminate which in turn heats up the glue. Comes right off. lol. I had to do something, that stuff was really stuck on there. lol.
When all else fails, improvise. ;D

Nice work, wish I was brave enough to tackle a job like that. Is the tile hard to cut...what did you cut the tile with?

Ogeezer, I haven't got that far yet. Give me time. I just wanted to show what we have done so far.
Charbel, I don't think the tile is hard to cut. but the hubby did it so I'm not sure.
And thanks for the positive comments. It was my first time doing it.

might i suggest after you caulk, and while its wet, you can also use a natural wood quarter-round. just gotta be careful nailing it or use liquid nails or you can use quarter-round tile too.. www.fireclaytile.com/moldingslist1.htmlhere are some pretty rope styles too www.fireclaytile.com/ropeslist.htmllowes has tile quarter-round... doesnt show many choices online but they have them

We did some tile work also, hubby let me cut a few tile squares. Not hard at all. We bought that saw from Home Depot. If I could do it...it was easy.

Thanks ogeezer. We have done quite a few DIY projects around the house besides the tile. We took out the sliding glass door and put in french doors, lots of painting, inside and out. We did do a small patio in the back yard with bricks that I had forgot to mention. We have torn down the back patio and are going to replace it in the near future. We also put up gutters on the house. I'm sure that I am leaving something out but that's all I can think of right now.

Humbug, first let me say I love what you've done to your kitchen. We want to start remodeling ours, too. We have old formica countertops which I want to replace. I want to add tile for my backsplash too. Is there sheet rock behind your tiles or did you put in back board? On your new countertops...are they the prefab type? I would like to get the prefab type but my brother said we couldn't because my countertop has solid plywood. Was just wondering and thought maybe you could give me some tips!
