I put this in Womens forum b/c plug-in air freshners tend to bought more often by women than men ..AND.. the wife is no different than others xcept in one cause: getting me to find a way to refill 'em cheaper than using store boughts or buying another plug air freshner.
Well, this is what I came up with for resourceful women (stretching household budget dollars) to do on their own or get their husbands to do.
Scented oil air freshener work pretty well, they are long lasting, more gentle and natural smelling than other types. However, refills are whether expensive, sometimes costing about half as much as an entire setup. Therefore, here's how to recharge an empty refill glass container. This is just an example of how it is done for one brand, but I imagine the others are similar.
WORDS OF CAUTION – Even tough the warmer uses a small amount of heat to release the fragrance by warming the oil up, it is still a good idea to avoid flammable oil or at least to test the oil first, keeping an eye on the new refill to make sure it doesn't catch fire before letting the unit run by itself. Okay with this precaution said, here's what you will need to refill your air freshner:
1) An empty refill
2) Scented oil for oil warmer.
I got mine from the dollar store and they are the perfect size for the my refill (about 10ml for each bottle). Don't mix them up with lamp oil and other type of oil you may find.
3) A butter knife, pen knife or something thin and stiff
Pardon my blurry pics.
STEP 1 - Use a knife to slowly pry off the rubber plastic lids of the glass containers. You want to be careful since you will need the lids again. Slowly and gently lift the lid from the glass container.
STEP 2 - With the lids removed, slowly pour the oil into the glass refill container. Once again, slowly and gently, you don't want to have scented oil all over the place.
STEP 3 - Just snap the plastic lids back on the glass container tightly and you are DONE !. If you still have the screw on covers from when you brought the refills, you can screw them back on now you have a refill ready to use whenever you need.
