Reading the Leader News today - EC citizens and West Co. residents will be getting a big boost to their property taxes this coming year. We do have a choice in November to stop the "free spenders" but we have to vote.
The school wants to spend money on a field house, restrooms, auditorium improvements, some classroom repairs and replenish the bank account. They spent too much money on the baseball park, football field, teacher salaries and administrator pay. They also have the bad habit of spending money when there isn't any in their budget. They hope we will approve tax increases to pay for what they spend. They need to stay within the budget and plan better. Only spend what will be coming in from present tax bills. People have to live this way - why not the school district?
Now the city has various problems. They dream of glorious things and have no money to accomplish those dreams. They want to fund a feeder street for a portion of Hwy 59, build a exit ramp for Prasek's and make an overpass for 59 over a FM 1162 that is not needed. If it was then it would be the responsibility of the State and not the citizens of El Campo. If they didn't have the money for the Norris street project - why did they contract with the low bidder to begin the work? Calling the drainage ditch at Meadow Lane a bridge is a farce. It is a culvert. It could have been accomplished in 30 days by extending the culvert. But that isn't what our city wanted. Also, anyone who thought that this project could be done in 90 days - has a problem with reality. It may be finished by Christmas.
Folks - say no to these tax increases. Make these elected officials live on a "beer budget and not their champagne dreams"
