Please pray for my 6 yr. old grandson. He was bitten by a snake yesterday evening and was flown by helicopter to Houston Memorial where he is in the trauma unit. I'm babysitting my other two grandchildren and I'm just sick with worry. Thank you!

What is his first name? We can say it in our prayers.....You got my prayers also. For all the snake lovers on here this a sign that snakes can be dangeouos (please don't start a war defending snakes I know God created em for a reason) A few years a ago a friends family lost a boy playing with worms that were actually snakes. Stargazer everything will be fine he made it to the hospital and is getting well taken care of, The good Lord will get you and your family through this.

Netmaster, his name is J.J. They moved him from the trauma unit to a regular room this afternoon. We went to see him...taking his 4 yr. old brother and 3 yr. old sister with us. The nurses were concerned that the 4 yr. old might be traumatized since he was there when it happened...but he seems to be doing ok. They think it may have been a copperhead that bit him right above the ankle. His foot and leg is swollen and from the bite down is blackish blue. They said the swelling has gone down some since last night. They had just given him a pain killer when we got there. It broke my heart to see him in pain. I wanted to transfer his pain to me...to spare him of it. I know he's in good hands. Neighbors have been saying that in the past few days they have been killing copperheads and coral snakes...some even in the garages. I'm paranoid now...scared to walk outside much less let the other two grandchildren out!
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers! You don't know how much they mean to me...to the point of tears......and I really need to cry and get it out!!

Saturday night he developed a rash which they say is typical of a copperhead bite and the swelling went up to his knee. But the good news is he's doing a WHOLE lot better. The swelling has gone way down and hardly any pain. They want him to walk before he can come home...which he hasn't even done yet. We're taking care of his little brother and sister and they miss him (and their mom and dad, too). The 4 yr. old asked me, "Maw-Maw, why couldn't mommy just put a band aid on it?" Out of the mouth of babes...I had to laugh...if only it was that simple!

that'sgood news! back when I was about 10 was visiting my Grandpa's grave, Grandma was there tending the plants and hoing the weeds.. I felt something tapping on my boot heel, it was a snake, grandma in one step reached over and chopped it in two with her trusty garden hoe. it was a baby one, and I was laughing about it. Grandma explained that the baby ones were the very most dangerous.. was there about 8 years ago, was always wary of snakes when visiting Papa's grave..

Weird how we remember those close encounters with snakes. About ten years ago I opened the door to go into the garage and for some reason I happened to glance down. There was a moccasin coiled up right there where I would've stepped down! To this day I still look down whenever I open that door. Now, the GOOD NEWS...JJ came home at 12:20 am!! He broke out with the rash again before he left but they still let him go. He has a little walker to help him walk. I told him to save it...Maw-Maw may be needing it in a few more years...lol! Otherwise, he's doing real good. I can't thank y'all enough for your prayers and support. What a great bunch you all are!

Praise God !! Our prayers were answered !! Speaking of snake encounters. I was sweeping leaves from the sidewalk. I sweep away some leaves and when I swung back to sweep the same spot again to get the leaves I missed. I froze, I noticed it wasn't leaves I left behind but a coiled snake! I used the broom to keep a distance between me and the snake while someone else went and got the hoe.

Before moving to this area we used to live nearer to town but on property with a pond. My grandaughter used to SPOT snakes for popop to shoot Had a grand total of 32 moccasins before we moved away from there! Now no pond but still plenty of snakes, mostly hognose they say are not poisonous, but my motto will always be a dead snake the best snake. Very happy to hear that your grandson is doing well , it is the power of prayer and the bravery of a little boy with a story to wow all his friends I'm sure. May he have a quick recovery!

He finally got up today and used his walker...with some help from his mom. He took not one but two baths, also...lol! He was vomiting some today...maybe his body getting rid of the last of the poison?? The hospital never did give him the antivenim. He was suppose to go back to school today but there was no way he could have made it. More than likely...keeping fingers crossed...Monday!

Yes, he went back today. He was the "big man on campus"...lol! His classmates wanted to know all about it. He was able to walk on his own Saturday morning and seems to be doing fine. He told my daughter last night that when he closes his eyes all he sees are snakes. Poor thing...I'm sure this has affected him in more ways than one.
