I understand that in order for the current tenant to renew her lease, the city asked (told) her to repair the slate roof that had gone bad over the last 75 years (imagine that). Sounds a lot like blackmail to me.
Now the city wants her out and wants to sell the building. Guess what city council. I want to see you sell a building that doesn't meet city codes. How can you do that? No one else can sell property that isn't up to city code. Folks the city will have to foot the bill for a new roof and chances are they will be renting the building before selling a defunct middle-class restaurant (food that is).
Maybe they can move it out to the new highway feeder roads that is planned for our future.

Sounds a lot like the same type of people ECISD has. To sell the old middle school they want to spend around 600 k tearing the buildings down and leveling the area so they can sell it for around 200 k, but the good thing is that it will go back on the tax rolls. Shouldn't take long to make up 400 k in taxes to break even.

As long as it stays in the hands of the ECISD - we will get no tax money. And if it sells for only land value - I'll bet the buyer gets a tax break for buying distressed land.
Tax payers never win - we just keep paying!
