Once again according to the EC paper, the council will discuss more on the 59 feeder roads and the Prasek crossover. The council wants to hire an engineering firm to plan the feeder roads and such.
Doesn't the Texas Highway Dept. employ several engineers to do just that and have only to be asked? According to a retired engineer in Yoakum - plans for those feeder roads probably already exist in the files in Austin. When the roads were build - making feeder roads was discussed and dropped - unnecessary at the time.
The council sure wants to spend around $3 million now and $20 million over the next 15 years. Do you know how those money plans tend to grow over a long period of time? That 20 will be closer to 40 by the time its over.
Another question - just who will benefit with these projects? Sure Prasek will with more business but how will that help El Campo? He doesn't pay any sales taxes or property taxes to El Campo.
How about the property serviced by the feeder roads? Who owns that property? I bet the city will not release those names to the public any time soon. Those people are the ones pushing for the feeders. They can't sell their land commercially without the new roads. Now we have private gains in the picture.
Folks - our council is way too liberal! There are streets in EC that need repairs and rework. Ditches need to be cleaned and old homes taken down. Let's quit trying to help the rich landowners fill their pockets at the expense of the taxpayers.
I can't understand why they recommend raising 59 over FM 1162! Raising 1162 is much cheaper than raising an Interstate hwy over a farm road - according to the retired THD.
And I'm very tired of hearing how we need to pay for improvements to the Prasek turnaround. That is not El Campo!
