In the Leader News I read where the proposed highway improvements suggested by our mayor will cost the city about $20 million over several years. Why?
Just what will those highway improvements do for EC? Will it bring more industry to town? There is no new industry! We were told that the railroad would bring a better economy - they only stop the train has made here is for Christmas and that just didn't bring money.
Improving the situation at Prasek's - other than Prasek - who is that going to help? I
I just don't see how these improvements will help El Campo. And by the way - doesn't the Texas Highway Department plan and do most of the improvements and repairs without city assistance? But that's right - our city government wants these feeder roads and new overpasses. I would suggest that we let the state determine if and when we need all these improvements - like an overpass over a farm road. Folks - that is expensive!
Our city wants to build a 7 million youth park on the west side of town and need our permission to move money from one account to another which the city would control.
Just where will all this money come from? Property and sales tax increases?
Maybe the council members have found a gold mine?

They just don't get it. People are struggling now. They need jobs more than new roads and parks. I didn't realize the roads in ec were that bad

Looks like we made a good decision to decide to buy a house up here instead. Dayumn they have no sense running EC from the sounds of things.

My city street has lots of bumps and dips that need repair but the city said that my street in on the list for seal coating. Many years ago I worked for Swabbe and Mikes out of Shiner - road re-surfacing and re-building. Seal coats only help prevent water damage. My street needs to have resurfacing like hot mix to cover the problems and it will also seal coat. But it is a little more expensive. The city needs to take care of the city streets, water lines, sewer lines and such. Not worry about feeder lanes for the freeway.
The little league was told that new fields would attract tournaments. Folks, these tournaments do not translate in great amounts of income for local business. McDonalds, Whataburger and such increase sales but no one stays overnight or sits in restaurants. Just why do we need new fields. Fix the old ones and wait for the economy to improve.
All this talk of expenditures means only one thing folks - NEW TAXES!!!
