I went by Ford dealership Sunday checking on new ford pickup without salesman around, 40-50 thousand dollars unbelieveable prices on these pickups but understandable from article in this mornings paper stating the average hourly ford worker made $109,020 in 2010, including wages, benefits and overtime up 17 percent from 1999. And UAW is treatening to strike Ford for higher wages, what the hell is going on.

Short review of recent history! Ford did not accept stimilius package from Obama - ticked him off! Ford would not let him name a new chief executive (himself) for Ford like GM did. Omama wanted to run Ford and all the car companies. Ford made bids for government vehicles yet the Obama bought GM at a higher price to help GM rather than Ford. GM and Ford pay is almost the same but Obama wants to hurt Ford. The Union belongs to Obama so - the Union will attack Ford. Just politics!

The next car I buy will be a Ford just for that reason.

Couldn't find the Pie Chart I found a few years ago that showed the costs of Union Negotiated Benefits added to each automobile produced by the Big 3 Union dominated and the non union foreign U.S. Plants. it was significant

We've been looking at new vehicles and the bloody things are way to expensive to even consider. Heck, even the used ones with high mileage are going for mint.

Wait, what? Ford has taken "government bailouts" in the past. They went before Congress to ask for the money: - media.ford.com/images/10031/Ford_Motor_Company_Business_Plan.pdf"Ford Motor Company will receive $5.9 billion in [government] loans through 2011 to help finance numerous engineering advances to traditional internal combustion engines and electrified vehicles. In addition, theses loans will help the company convert two truck plants to the production of cars. Ford will be raising the fuel efficiency of more than a dozen popular models, including the Focus, Escape, Taurus and F-150, representing close to two million new vehicles annually and helping to transform nearly 35,000 employees to green engineering and manufacturing jobs in factories across 5 states: Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio. Ford is driving a major upgrade, leveraging a portfolio of technologies, including the direct injection, smart turbocharging EcoBoost engine, advanced transmissions, and new hybrid technologies." Not only that, they have taken "bailouts" from the British government: "The British government not long ago signed off on a £360m loan guarantee central to Ford's £450m loan from the European Investment Bank to develop next-generation environmentally friendly cars."

Sure, Ford took advantage of government programs and tax breaks, but Ford didn't become "FEDERAL MOTOR CO,
like GM became GOVERNMENT MOTORS.....

Not sure what you mean. GM ran themselves into the dirt over the period of a decade, filed for bankruptcy, and then flew to Washington in their lear jets to beg for money.
The team Obama tasked to save them ripped out their terrible management and went through 4 different CEOs, but they turned the company around and saved about million jobs.
Guess what? GM is now the #1 auto seller in the world. The American company, General Motors, IS THE #1 AUTO SELLER IN THE WORLD.

Made in Texas by TexansRemember that, it was on the rear window of almost every Ford truck sold in the state. Well, that was used to be, BUT, at least every Ford F-150 and F-250 can be labeled "Made in America" NOT SO....Chevrolet....and it's all models, every one..... Sure, Chevrolets are assembled in America, but, there are enough foreigh made parts (motors, transmissions, drive axles, even the chassis) used in the assembly of GM vehicles that one cannot claim they are an American made. Many Ford models, Chrysler models, Toyota models, even BMW models can claim to be American made. Chevrolet Number ONE...................Phoooey

I'm sorry, but I'm not following the logic in your post.
With TARP Obama turned GM around and they are now the #1 auto maker in the world. Do you disagree with this statement?

Sounds like you are anti-free market and don't like what capitalism and the global economy have done to the American auto makers.
Given that Ford also takes government handouts, what do you propose?

The President pulled General Motors out of bankruptsy by shoving tons of money in their direction........and General Motors cannot be considered an American made car builder.....BUT, in doing so the President has jacked up the fortunes of GM's suppliers.....THAT IS ....Opel of Germany.....Vauxhall of Great Brittian....Holden of Australia........and lets not leave out......Shanghia GM and SAIG-GM-Waling of CHINA
OH by the way, China manufactures the most automobiles in the world.

I don't think redneckbob's an ahole. I think that it's refreshing to read another point of view for a change. You guys are very insular in your political beliefs. Hopefully rnb reminds you that there is another position in the political arena.
Bought a new car two weeks ago. I've always bought Chevy...but not this time. Chevrolet dealership locally thought that they'd work themselves a better deal since they had a female on the hook. I bought a Ford from the Wharton dealership. They didn't treat me like I'm stupid.
