update:
EOUL, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea has launched a long-range rocket, U.S. and South Korean officials confirmed to CNN on Sunday.
The payload of the rocket remains unclear. North Korea has said the rocket was to carry a satellite into space, but the United States, South Korea and other nations fear it could be a missile with a warhead attached.
Earlier Sunday, before the launch, South Korea's national security council called an emergency meeting amid concerns that a North Korean rocket launch was imminent, a presidential spokesperson told CNN Sunday.
The rocket -- launched at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday (10:30 p.m. ET Saturday) -- was a "provocative act in violation" of U.N. Security Council resolution on North Korea's weapons program, said Fred Lash, a State Department spokesman, told reporters.
A senior Obama administration official confirmed that the rocked did clear Japan.
On Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama reiterated that the United States strongly opposes any such launch.
"We have made it very clear to the North Koreans that their missile launch is provocative, it puts enormous strains on the Six Party talks and that they should stop the launch," Obama said while on a stop in France. advertisement
Obama warned that the United States will join with its allies to take "appropriate steps" to let North Korea know it can't violate United Nations rules and get away with it.
Western nations fear that North Korea plans a ballistic missile test rather than a satellite launch, but the administration's special envoy to the Six-Party Talks, Stephen Bosworth, said it didn't matter if the North Koreans were trying to put a satellite in space or testing a ballistic missile that could threaten Japan or the United States.

Hard to be threatened by a country that still uses black and white video and photoshops missle test launches. Hell, we could drop a single EMP in the middle of that grown over shack infested forest and send them to the stone age. They should not be so cocky.

Hell! Send in Hillary! After Ducking Sniper Fire in Bosnia, she can handle anything!
Don't you know our enemies are laughing up their sleeves whenever they deal with her... she's as big a liar as her husband and can be corrupted with donations to their "Foundations" like the Arab and Chinese Donors have proven... She's a sick joke... obama is an even sicker one for appointing her to that postition.

I think we should remind North Korea that because there has been no official end of the Korean War, the United States does not need any reason at all to "blow them back to the stone age".

North Korea is China's Israel, just like Iran is Russia's Israel. They both have permission to talk all they want, acting requires approval by their Sponsor States..

ONOLULU — The U.S. military says its ground-based mobile missile defense system has successfully shot down a medium-range ballistic missile during a test in Hawaii.
The military says the target missile was shot down Tuesday over the Pacific Ocean.
The target missile was fired from a mobile launch platform off the island of Kauai.
Soldiers with the 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade then launched an interceptor from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai's west coast.
The Missile Defense Agency said in a statement that the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system had "completed a successful intercept."
The technology is specifically designed to shoot down ballistic missiles during their last stage of flight.

I am positive there is a Ballistic Missile Submarine, known as a "boomer" with 16 ICBM's with multiple war-heads, quietly sitting just off North Korea's coast waiting just in the rare case that that idiot of a leader might get "stupid" and do what he says.
Well...Maybe not a "boomer", that would raise concern in Moscow if they detected a launch........................It's probably one of the former "boomer's" that has been modified to fire nuclear tipped "Tomahawk" cruise missiles from each of the six-teen former missile bays.....You might call that sub a "baby-boomer"
The fact that both Israel and Japan have been given a number of "Tomahawks" might be something to think about. Israel definetly has a nuclear arsenal and Japan , a few years back, OK'ed the US Navy to "home-port" a nuclear powered aircraft carrier in Yokosuka. A first time that any nuclear powered ship has been allowed there. Nimitz class carriers often carry nuclear weapons..................just in case.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- North Korea has begun fueling its long-range missile, according to a senior U.S. military official. A satellite image shows a rocket sitting on its launch pad in the northeast of the country.
The fueling signals that the country could be in the final stages of what North Korea has said will be the launch of a satellite into space as early as this weekend, the senior U.S. military official said Wednesday.
Other U.S. military officials said the top portion of the missile was put on very recently, but satellite imagery shows a shroud over the stage preventing a direct view of what it looks like.
The officials said the satellite payload appears to have a "bulbous" cover, which could indicate that there is a satellite loaded on it. Such a cover protects a satellite from damage in flight.
Although the sources did not know for sure what the payload is, they said there is no reason to doubt that it is a satellite, as indicated by North Korea.
Pyongyang has said it will launch the missile between April 4 and April 8. A launch would violate a 2006 United Nations Security Council resolution banning the reclusive state from launching ballistic missiles.
Pentagon officials worry less about the payload and more about the launch itself, saying that any kind of launch will give the North Koreans valuable information about improving their ballistic missile program.
The United States believes that the North Koreans have the technology to hit Alaska or Hawaii with a ballistic missile and that the country is working on advancing that technology so it could hit the west coast of the United States.

obama and the useless UN will talk, talk and more talk for 2 weeks then the whole thing will be over with. The key words here are United Nations-----a useless organization that thinks talking about something will get it done. I use to work with people like that-----they talked a good job but didn't do much.

the way obama has been catering to our enemies and sharing in to their hatred of America, that "Creator of Peace" should be obama's award.... maybe he'll get "Comrade of the 21st Century"
