We just got back from a trip to Canyon Lake, Texas. There is a (sort of ) new trail right before you get to the dam. It is well worth the effort to make the return on the hard side. Ask anyone there and they will show you where the hard trail is. If there isnt anyone there, it is right after the second bridge on the return, you will see the path off to your right. Follow it and you will be tested.

we've been there its nice... well it looks like the same place anyway... runs along side the river right? we fished at the dam and walked the trail, sad thing was there was a dead baby deer next to the river looked like it was just hours old before it died.. it was easy getting down to the dam but really hard walking back up...
they have a military campsite there with cabins and boat rentals we wanted to stay there but it was booked up...

That is the place for sure. Makes you sad about the wildlife, but we know that is the course of nature. Sucks .. but its real.

Yea .. but we have a timeshare, so we dont pay for hotels .. just maintenance fee's. We go as often as we can get away. We take most of our own food and stuff. They have a ton of stuff to do there and if we want something different .. there is always Austin or San Antonio for day trips.
