Seems like they used to have something like this that you could hang on the wall. But that was a LONG time ago. ECHILOW, remember any info on that. I think you used to have one and mom and dad had one, too.

I broke down and picked one up. It's about as big as a 27" LCD television. It does heat up instantly as opposed to an hour with an oil filled model. The sides and top do stay cool. The metal grill on the other hand does get hot enough to burn if touched for a prolong time. The bad does also get hot to the touch but the mounting bracket is a type of plastic and sets the heater about an inch to inch and a half from the wall. There is also a metal mounting bracket on the bottom edge as well that gives a similar distance from the wall. I can see nothing in regards to a metal grid inside as in a normal electric heater with elements. There is no oil reserve to heat up. I also do not see a ceramic plate of any type. What I do see is a similar setup to a rear window defroster without the grid (the two connectors are attached to a 'plate'). It also comes with an auto shut off feature if it overheats and a tipover safety feature as well. My research says it uses an infrared type heat, use to heat the objects in the room thus not wasting heat in places like windows. How's performance you ask? Since I don't have the electric bill yet the cost is in the air. Literally. On the initial startup I had to open the windows to burn off the stuff from the manufacturing process. The odd thing, my front was warm while the back side towards the window was cool. After the burn off I warmed over equally and the room actually got hot in comparison to the oil heater we used before and much more quickly. One of the things that impressed me was that it does turn on and off once it reaches the desired temperature range. One other thing I noticed was that it has an 'anti-freeze' feature that raises the temp to around 40+ degrees which is good in a garage or large sized pump house. On the days I've used it in our basement room near the stairs it has actually raised the heat enough to warm the upstairs some as well which comes in handy considering the thermostat is located up there. Thus far it has been far better than any other heater we've had. While I'm told this one can be left unattended like any other heater of this type you won't see me actually doing it or testing it. Thought I would add a link to Amazon that had some reviews as well... Click Here
