Buddy of mine, contracted const of a combo livestock watering reservoir (to feed stock ponds) and fishing hole on his property down towards Victoria some months ago, and i was out there yesterdy when he got his ordered loads of fish for the irregularly shaped 5+ acre impoundment (in levee'd swale area) that he stocked with catfish, perch, and feedstock minnows.
While out there, I got a pond stocking guide for calculating the carrying capacity of lakes, ponds, and fishing holes from the fish rep-supplier. The following is a uniform fish stocking plan for property owners, that mite be helpful for some of the WCUnleashers out there.
If you do not plan to supplement with a commercial fish feed, then you may choose from the following stocking rates:
Black Crappie - 100 per surface acre or 150 if not stocking Channel Catfish.
Largemouth Bass - 100 per surface acre or 150 if not stocking Channel Catfish.
Hybrid Bluegill or Coppernose Bluegill - 500 per surface acre or 1000 if not stocking Channel Catfish.
Redear Bream - 200 per surface acre.
Channel Catfish - 700 per surface acre.
Fathead Minnows - 10 lbs. per surface acre minimum.
Hybrid Bluegill - 2000 per surface acre.
Fathead Minnows - 10 lbs. per surface acre minimum.
When submergent vegetation is a problem, especially in spring fed impondments including those from pumped underground water resources, 10-15 Grass Carp per surface acre of vegetation is recommended. In Texas, the Triploid Grass Carp is the only species which will render such vegetation controllable.
When stocking fish wheref Channel Catfish are present, stocking rates must be measurably increased.
