Studies have shown that some natural substances can repel cockroaches: - Nepetalactone, which is present in two forms in catnip;
- Ceneole, also known as eucalyptol, which is present in bay leaves; and
- Osage orange oil, although scientists have not determined the exact active ingredient; and the old time favorite
Altho not considered to be a deterent, a mixture of baking soda and powdered sugar which causes roaches to die quite inhumanely because they are unable to pass the gas (by belching or otherwise).

I'm trying two approaches... 1. the powdered sugar and baking soda ..and 2. powdered sugar and Borax.. I just hope they'll have the decency to expire near the particular concoction I used to kill them.. so I can determine by body count the best one. and hoping IK my cat doesn't rake them up and drop them down the drain like she's so prone to do.. (no lie, I just unclogged the lavatory drain,, bunches of roach bods, wings, legs, roach parts, she likes to play a sort of golf with roach carcases, she does same on the floor, trys to flip them on their back and watch them kick their legs.. Kitty Polo)

Don't understand it, not seeing any live roaches, and not finding any Roach Carcasses , but they seem to have disappeared... did they all eat a bunch of the sugar-borax or baking soda and pass away in hiding.. dunno

Don't understand it, not seeing any live roaches, and not finding any Roach Carcasses , but they seem to have disappeared... did they all eat a bunch of the sugar-borax or baking soda and pass away in hiding.. dunno dunno bout the borax mix but the sugar-baking soda permits other roaches and even ants to feed off the remains of the dead ones without themselves falling vicitim to the treatment. At the wife's rent house, I managed to catch some of the fleet-a-foot, wall-climbing Mediteranean geckos whose range now includes this area. You can't lure them into a trap or with bait but if'n your faster than they are, don't mind handling these fragile reptiles, while working in attics or other places catch a few. Geckos make nice insect hounds, feeding on most any bug that invades the house, including roaches, silverfish, even Pharoah ants (aka sugar/piss ants), and even spiders. They'll share your house with you, you seldom will see them since theyre mostly nocturnal creatures AND if sometime you see miniture-like golf balls ('bout size of a small pea), worry not, its just gecko eggs. I imported about 4 from the wife's rent houses some years ago, and seldom ever see a c0ckroach, cept once in a bluemoon, one being chased across the wall or vinyl floor by a hungry Med gecko...
