Not sure which category this falls under, but here goes.... bought the daughter a 2005 Jeep Liberty. Only came with one key w/remote entry. It is the type that you have to have to be able to start the car. Copies of the key will only unlock the door, not start the engine.
Will we have to purchase another thru the service dept. at the dealership or is there some way around this they are not telling us? The said a new remote thingie will run around $100. Yikes!

you have to go thru the dealer to get it. It has a chip in it that has to be programed which takes about 30 seconds and the cost will be closer to $200.00

thanks. I could have sworn I read how you can buy the remote thingie on ebay and even how you can program it yourself, but I may have dreamed it since I can't for the life of me figure out where I saw it.

If you have two keys you can program a third, if you have one key the dealer$hip has to program it for you. See this link: www.wjjeeps.com/sentry.htm Good luck, mine cost me +-$150. then I found the missing key a few weeks later. Kinda wished I had not found the lost one after spending the bucks. ;D
