A model of the Imperial City in Hue (pronounced "way"), aka "the Citadel," where the longest fought battles by USMC and ARVN forces battled VietCong during the '68 Tet Offensive: The Citadel is a square enclosure with a circumference of 10,000 m, a height of 6.6 m and a thickness of about 21 cm. The center of the wall is packed with dirt while the outer shell is built with bricks. There are ten gates to access the Citadel each with a two story watch tower. The gates are named according to their direction of exit. The southeastern gate known as Thuong Tu gate while the eastern gate is also called Cua Dong BaTHE CITADEL MOOT: SCHOOL GIRLS NEAR THE BRIDGE GOING INTO THE IMPERIAL CITY:

The river that intersects Hue (Citadel on north bank & city on south) is called the Perfume River by tourists. Viets kno it as the Song Huong ( Song is "river" in Vietnamese) SONG HUONG LOOKING TO THE WEST: ANOTHER VIEW OF THE RIVER (tour boat in foreground): PEASANT JUNK (boat) on the Perfume R.: ANOTHER PERFUME RIVER TOUR BOAT: PERFUME RIVER TAXI: BOAT PEOPLE ON THE SONG HUONG: VIETNAMESE HOME ALONG THE SONG HUONG: LOOKING WEST ACROSS SONG HUONG TOWARD MOUNTAINS TO WHERE MANY OF MY FELLOW SOLDIERS & I FOUGHT THE ENEMY:

i'm going to show these to my dad, he would enjoy these! If your dad served in I-Corps (northern tier of the S.Viet tactical zones), I sure he remembers The Rockpile: The Rockpile, in northern Quang Tri Province, is the first stop north of Hue on the DMZ tour. It was a famous listening post during the Vietnam War, which US troops were helicoptered in and out of, and from which they guided bombers. It was also an artillery base with a huge array of big guns, including 175 long Toms, 8-inchers on tracks, Howitzer 105s and 155s. And I suspect, this picture of a rice paddy near the former DMZ will bring back memories: plus another taken from the air in 2007: and finally, one of the American CH-47 Chinooks, captured by the North Viet Army (NVA) in 1975: ...when you show him these pics, comfort him in the process, as scars from that era are difficult to face for many veterans, especially those who don't talk much about those times... ...sorry, couldn't get the last three images to load. Just as well, seeing them may well up times some veterans would like to forget.
