The new member group 'Founding Member' has been created and I'm testing it now. Once run through all members that were created June 2006 - November 2005 (The forums 2nd birthday) will receive this title. Founding members will have a maroon colored name, Founding Member title, and the Lone Star Bar under their member information. If you look to the left of this post you will see the results.

..I was tiring of all the little labels for post counts (i.e Full Member, God, Mouth of the South, Addict, etc). Those were too confusing, especially for new members who've been one since the Forums inception, based entirely on post count of less than (whatever number it was)...

Those were too confusing, especially for new members who've been one since the Forums inception, based entirely on post count of less than (whatever number it was)... Thus the reason post counts have been killed and member status is the same across the board. Other areas that still have post count will be disabled as well later tonight.

...if you're going to disable the member post counters, why not eliminate them from the member profiles also?
...do you also plan to disable the topic counters and total post counters for each topic too?
...do you also plan to do away with the identifier at the bottom of the Forum page, entitled: View the top 25 posters teaser as well?
...isn't doing away with the counters, a rudimentary form of censorship -- as it pertains to leveling the playing field so that newcomers and old hands are all on the same (e.g. =) level -- in a kind of socialist's way?
As much as I disliked the individual member's post counters, especially when being accused of running up post counts, they kind of became a badge of honor among some or bragging rights among others or objectional viewpoints of envy or anger with the lurking crowd who read but never comment.
As much as I dislike change, especially as I grow older, prehaps as with all things, it is time to move on in the evolutionary scheme of progression. And with change, in time, the counter issues will be long forgotten like so much else in life's experiences: something that once was becoming something that no longer is.

I haven't made a decision in those regards. I am leaning towards getting rid of them, however, with a present 250 member count to go through and the midst of tourist season up here it may not happen for a while unless I can find a code that will just hide it. There is no plan or intention at this time to remove the topic counters. That is a coding issue that will have to be taken up at some later point when time allows. In this instance it isn't a matter of making anyone or everyone 'equal' as it would also require removing posts from the forum. As far as my personal stance goes numbers of posts shouldn't really matter one way or the other. This change was done as a result of numerous posts with nothing more than one word replies and smilies that had no real bearing on the topics at hand. At the original inception of the forum I struggled with the idea of whether or not posts should be counted and decided to go ahead and go with the way things were. As it stands now that position has changed in light of recent events. Again, it has no purpose or standing of making everyone 'equal' as that is something that is impossible to do at any level of life. It is for that very reason of post that consist of nothing more than 'lol ' and 'gnight' that the chat room was added for everyone to use and I encourage it's use. I understand some will be upset over the change, having a 'chat style' topic in the forum instead of the chat room actually takes a toll on bandwidth use and would eventually ruin it for everyone with server downtime as we have experienced in the past. I hope everyone can understand why this change was made and that it was necessary.
