Given the recent news about WCNet I understand the concern some individuals have about continuing their internet service. This thread is for that very purpose and that purpose only. If you have any suggestions for those concerned please list the provider(s) below and if possible any contact information for them. Searching for a new provider in light of any situation ca be difficult and I would like those that can help to help if possible.

Some have asked and this is only a starting point for you. My best suggestion would be to look in your phone book and make some calls based on your needs and locations. These are a few I could find looking around on the internet. I'm sure others can be found and some on this list may be outdated. - YK Communications Inc

Am just getting MORE confused the more I look for service. Is there any advantage to going with something local say YK Communications as opposed to something national as in AT&T as far as Tech support or help goes? Also I couldn't believe the difference in price between Dish and Direct TV.Dish , though cheaper, seems harder to contact, less knowledgeable , not even sure service will be available--etc etc--but in case of bad weather do you completely lose the net?Who do you call with problems?

Add another possible provider to the list...
Bay City, Palacios, Blessing, Markham, Vanvleck areas (all serviced by WCNet) can contact Lee Vaughn with Sky Connect, he provides wireless and dialup. The number is 979-245-5503.

Take Wild Blue off the list. They cannot install in the 77437 area code presently.

I posted this in the "chit chat" section. I am reposting it here.
WCNET is leaving but JWNET is still here. JWNET has been providing dial up since 2002 and is owned and operated by The Computer Source in El Campo. The Computer Source at 808 N. Mechanic (near the Whataburger) with 1300 happy customers is here to provide our area with accelerated dial up for $14.95 per month. You can find it cheaper if you want to deal with the $10 guys but when it comes to support that's where we have them beat hands down. We've added quite a few folks in the past few days. I'm in the store around 6 every morning so for those of you who need to set up a new dial up account with fresh new emails and are having trouble getting through to us, call me early. We also offer web hosting, webpage design, etc.
I personally would like to thank WCNET for being here in the early years. Call us at 979-543-9620
Thanks,
Jesse Wood, Owner

Good information. I know several people who use the jwnet service ..never heard any complaints that the company didnt fix right away. I prefer the monster dsl .. more power .. more power .. yea .. I am spoiled to high speed .. but hey .. it's just not available everywhere .. so if ya need a connection .. all I am saying .. is .. if they can hook ya up .. they are nice folks.

I use Awsomenet....they are out of Victoria but have an office in Bay City. Basic 56K hookup, and they have very few drops and always runs at about 45-50K. NO CONTRACT.....$10 per month. You can drop them at any time. I've had them about 4 years now. 1-361-503-6381.

Awesomenet has good dial up service but their tech support is not impressive. Quik.com has good service and good technical support, but no dial up numbers for Louise. Jwnet is adequate service but tech support is almost non exsistant. Copper.net has the easiest set up I've encountered and Fantastic tech support.
If you live out in the country, satalite or broadband is your only option for highspeed. Expensive equipment set up, unreliable in bad weather and the fair access policy can be complicated. If you live in town. DSL is more reliable, but Cable is faster. Both have difficult tech support.
