I cannot open anything that is forwarded to me in my outlook express. This is only since I had to switch to new Internet provider....I never had this problem before and have friends for years sending me stuff from aol, yahoo, hotmail etc and now I cannot open...Form comes up which says" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folders Option Control Panel..Went there but do not know how to begin to creat anything...Any help would be greatly appreciated....Lazyl

First thing to check is go to Tools, then down to Options. When your options opens up there is a tab at the top that says Security. Click there. Look and see if there is a checkmark on the 4th line down that says Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus. If its checked, uncheck it. Also uncheck the 5th line down that says Block images and other external content. When you get the error message about file association, it is basically telling you that it does not recognize the file type being sent to you. If someone sends you a .doc file, you have to have Microsoft Word to open it. If someone sends you a .pdf file, you have to have Adobe Reader to open it. Tell us what the extensions are on the files you are receiving and we can tell you what program opens it. the extension is the period/dot and the three letters at the end of the file name. like .doc .xml .jpg etc.

The attachments should have a designation. If you click on the paper clip it should drop down to show you the name of the attachment and give you the option to save the attachment. If you'll tell me what the three letter designation to the attachment is I can tell you what program opens it. If that doesn't work, then save the attachment to your desktop, then tell me what type it is.

.eml is an email document that opens in Outlook Express. Some other email clients use it also. Are you sure you are using Outlook Express for your email? Hotmail and Yahoo mail are both web based email. If you are using OE and the message comes up about file designation. Choose to open the file in Outlook Express and see if that works. If it doesn't your going to have to give more details on what you are using and exactly what errors you are getting.
