I just installed a Linksys router so I could be a wireless network I like saying that, anyway....I have secured it, but want to check how much signal I am getting from the main computer I installed it on. So far, the only other thing that runs off of it is my main computer (where it is hooked up) and a laptop. Also, I read it can hook up to where your music can be played on any entertainment system. This is all new to me....tell me what great fun things can be done with this lil device I also have a playstation II that I'm excited to try out. What things can be done with the PS2? Can you download games on PSII? Thanks!!

I have a router also, but for some reason it keeps acting up and I have to go through the whole thing of reinstalling it. It will work for awhile and then just stop working. It's getting very aggravating.
I hope you have better luck with yours.

Signal strength depends on the type of router and receiver you have. They have A/B/C/G/and N standards now all each going out a little further and stronger than the preceding one. At present, I think N is actually the strongest as far as signal and distance. If your laptop has wireless inside of it or a wireless card you can see the signal strength by looking in the lower right hand side where a wireless icon should be. It depends on the system as to what it looks like. If you double click it, it should bring up a box showing the network it's connected to and how many 'bars' you have similar to a cell phone. i had to read on the net how to tweak my connection to get the best possible speed. Google is your friend in those regards. As for slinging your media on your computer to your tv you'll need something like a Media Player to wireless transfer your media from your computer to your television. There are other types and brands available for use you just have to look around. For your Playstation 2 you'll need to look at several things. If you have the older 'brick' version you'll need to pick up a network adapter from EB Games or similar location. You'll only find them used at this point which is good because they go for around $15 with everything. If you have the Playstation 2 'slim' version you may already have the network card installed in it. It'll be the LAN type, looks like a big phone jack. In the case of either PS2 you will need to either send a network cable to the PS2 or get a wireless gaming adaptor. Online gameplay for the PS2 is free but you do need to have online enabled games. If you have any we have and you get hooked up give me a note here. We're online with our PS2 also and it's a blast playing against something other than a computer.

Thanks SJ, that was very informative. We plan on throwing the PS2 online soon and I will let ya know. So I'm pretty sure we have the PS2 brick version...to make it wireless you suggested buying a "network adapter" and will also need a "wireless gaming adapter?" or can i just get the wireless gaming adapter?

If you have the Linksys wireless router already then you just need a gaming/wireless adapter for the system. I actually have ours linked with a long Ethernet cable (looks like a phone cord but has bigger plugs) and I ran it through the ceiling in our house. I should point out I did it that way because it was faster, provided a direct link to the router, and was cheaper. I just had to move a few of the ceiling tiles out of the way and I dropped it behind a curtain near the console. When I don't use it it's rolled up and secured with a wire tie. When I use it I just plug it in the unit. For the longest time we just unrolled the cable and hooked it up from the router to the Playstation and let the wire run along the floor. A wireless gaming adapter for the PS2 may be hard to find or more than you would like to pay. That's the reason why I gave the 'wired' option above. It works just as well if not better because it's not competing with other wireless signals in the house. What you'll need is pictured below... Linksys Router (You said you had one) Playstation 2 Network Adapter (For the larger, old Playstation 2) Can be found at most game store like EBGames or even Amazon.com Ethernet Cable Can be found at Wal-Mart or any other electronics store. Can be used for a direct connection to the router shown above by plugging it into one of the available ports on the rear.

I like to play Star Wars Battlefront II and Heroes of the Pacific. The wife likes playing Hot Shots Golf Fore! online. For online games most of the PS2 sports games are online enabled. Your husband might like that one. Other games and information can be found here... Playstation 2 OnlineYou'll need to look for games with this logo on the case for online play. The good news is you can get them fairly cheaply now at most game resell shop like EBGames.
