Internet service is SBC Yahoo DSL. When I email something, even if it something two paragraphs or so, it either takes a really long time to send it or the connection expires and it sends me to a refresh screen. Is my puter just behind the times, is it SBC or what are your thoughts. Thanks...........

If you'll give us a little bit more information, we might be able to help. Are you using webmail, yahoo mail or Outlook express for your email. I'm assuming if you get a refresh screen it has to be some type of mail in your browser instead of a mail client. Are you using Internet Explorer or another browser like Firefox or Opera? The first thing I would try in your place is to empty your Temporary internet files, update and run your virus protection and if you have it, run a scan for adware and spyware. If you don't have it, get it. Something like Ad-aware, Windows Defender or Spybot. On a DSL connection, any phone you put on that line has to have a filter on it. Make sure there is not a phone hooked up without a filter. Make sure your mail box is not too full and delete out any of the junk you do not want to keep.

I've been having the same issues with our Embarq DSL for the past few weeks. Things are certainly slower the more they funk with the systems after taking over Sprint.

Where do I go to update my Temporary Internet files?
I have Norton that runs regularly.
Thank you.

You don't want to update your temporary internet files, you want to delete them. If you have Internet Explorer open, you can go up to the top and click on Tools, then go down to Internet Options. When your Internet options window opens, it will open on a General Tab. The first choice will be home page and underneath that you'll see where it says Temporary Internet Files. Click on the button that says "Delete Files" This will open up a second Delete Files window and you'll want to put a check in the box that says Delete all off line contents, then click OK. This could take a few minutes. Once the Hour glass disappears you'll be able to click Ok again to close your Internet Options window.
When using Yahoo mail, just because it gives you the option of having a couple of hundred megs worth of space, does not mean you have to use it. The more mail you have in your account, the longer it takes to load. Delete the junk mail regularly, keep your inbox as small as possible and do not save sent files unless necessary. Also change your password about once every six months or once a year.
I dislike Nortons with a passion. It uses too many resources, slows down your machine and is not the best choice for virus protection. If you have Nortons Internet Security, that could be the main reason you are having trouble sending and receiving mail. Try disabling it for a few minutes and see if that changes your mail performance. If so you might want to find an alternative. Adware and Spyware are not classified as viruses so you might want to get a program that is specific for those. Ad-aware, Spybot and Windows Defender are all good programs and they are free to be downloaded off the net. In this day and age you need both antivirus and a good adware, spyware program.
