After all the work I just had done on this computer to rid it of Spyware and Viruses something is still wrong.
First my desktop wallpaper is gone and it won't let me reset a wallpaper. Okay not a biggie but it bugs me as it means something is not right.
Second when I ran a full scan with the Norton they put on the computer right after getting it rehooked up it found 24 viruses and I hadn't even used it for any surfing or etc.
Third now my Icon for my Spybot is gone and when I go look on my C drive I find an empty folder for Spybot. Same thing for Adaware.
Called the computer place as they give a written guarantee and I have to take it back. They said a tech might have removed the Spybot and Adaware as they use those programs to scan with and he might have thought they were some he had put on it to clean it. Can't be right since I pulled up Spybot after getting computer home. Norton keeps popping up screens that it had found a high risk virus and removed it. But it isn't called Spybot. BUT it is after this that things disappeared.
Can you tell I'm not a happy camper? Will let you know what happens.

Got my computer back again and now have Adaware back on and Spybot. They fixed something in the registry so that it quit blocking my wallpaper and all seems to be working fine again.
They told me that with as many viruses and spyware that were on here they would usually recommend cleaning the harddrive or whatever it's called and just reinstalling everything. But I had so much stuff that would be hard to replace on it that I couldn't easily backup they had to just keep scanning and removing but they feel it's now okay. Lord I hope so. I'm crossing my fingers.
And yes I did have everything I could backed up. Asking Santa for an external harddrive so I can have everything ghosted to it for protection.

Wonder what else went away?
Not to cast any aspersions, but with "as many viruses and spyware that were on here" - did they provide you with a report? Strange they should find so much if you routinely run UPDATED Norton, Adaware, and Spybot. Beside knowing that it wasn't just an errant setting change, it may tell you where you got it and where to not to go back. Would be nice to know which data files were corrupted, too, and what may be retrievable, what you'll have to recreate, and what's just as good in the trash.
Run everything you can before the 'where-in-tee' runs out.

Mad Scientist, good questions to bring up.
You need to remember in an earlier thread I said because of something that had gotten on the computer I couldn't run Spybot or Adaware and I was without Norton since I was trying to remove an old outdated copy of Norton Corporate and couldn't get it off. Because I couldn't get the old Norton off I had a problem trying to install a new Norton. Whatever was here corrupted the history and I couldn't get it to show even what pages were visited the day before. I had problems for over two months before I got that Spy Sherriff on here and took it in so there was lots of time to have alot of spyware take up residence in my computer. lol
The computer guys told me they had tried to go back to see what sites were visited when the different viruses were logged on to this computer. They could tell me the day the different ones appeared but not where I had been. I have been trying out all sorts of different things I have on here and so far only the Spybot and Adaware had been removed. I can now run all the different scan programs and the computer guys removed the old Norton and put a new one on for me. Couldn't believe it was even cheaper than to go to the store and buy one!
Oh and my warranty is good for 30 days. So if I find anything else I'll take it back to them.
