as wet 'n humid to foggy as it's been, day or night, DD, they probably are frogs, 'specially the treefrogs, chorus frogs & cricket frogs which are calling for mates about this time of the year. Toads and larger frogs won't start their mating calls until mid-May, early June.

It's gonna be on AMC (American Movie Classics) Saturday night, starting at 7:00 p.m. central time zone...

You never hear of anyone eating toad legs... guess it has something to do with the fear of gum warts..

You never hear of anyone eating toad legs... guess it has something to do with the fear of gum warts.. Hey DD, see those little raised nodes behind the eyes of the Gulf Coast & Woodhouse toads' eyes. Those are called parotids. They are like scent glands, which secrete a musk which coats the outer skin of the toad. It's a defensive mechanism against some predators, which tends to stimulate the salivary glands of mammals (dogs, coyotes, etc) which mouths the warty skin, causing them to salivate profusely. You've probably seen dogs get a bad case of the slobbers from messing with toads. And oddly, drinking water doesn't alleviate the stimuli. Tho not toxic (except for the Giant Toad, found along the Texas border), its one lesson most dogs learn the first time. The chemical is so vile tasting, it's hardly worth the effort of cleaning a toad, much less eating toad legs.
